FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What materials are used in your Nest Mats?
Our Nest Mats are handmade in Australia from soft Aspen Wood Wool, a natural and sustainable material that's gentle on eggs and hens. Each mat has a paper base to keep the bedding in place and is adhered with a non-toxic adhesive.
How are Pristine Nest Mats different?
Our Pristine Nest Mats are special because they include dried lavender, calendula, and rosemary. Lavender keeps pests away and adds a calming scent. Calendula has antibacterial properties and encourages nesting. Rosemary supports respiratory health and freshens the coop. Together, they create a cleaner, more inviting space for your hens to lay.
What can I do with my Nest Mats after they're soiled?
Once your nest mats have served their time in the coop, they don't need to go to waste! Simply toss them into your compost or use them as mulch in the garden. The aspen wood wool and paper base break down naturally, enriching your soil and returning nutrients to the earth.
Are Nest Mats suitable for other poultry?
Our Nest Mats are made from natural materials and are safe to be used around other poultry species. Ther's no reason they can't be used with other poultry from a materials or safety point of view.
That said, our Nest Mats are designed specifically with laying hens in mind. Different poultry have different behaviors, and some birds (ducks in particular) can be harder on nesting materials and may pull or tear at them. Because of this, how well the mats hold up can vary depending on the flock.
We always love hearing customer feedback and are continuing to learn how our Nest Mats perform across different set ups.
How often should I replace the Nest Mats?
It really does change from coop to coop. As a guideline we recommend replacing the Nest Mats every 1-2 months, depending on the number of hens and the level of soiling due to coop design. Some coops may need more frequent changes, while others might last longer. Regular replacement ensures a clean and healthy environment for your chickens.
How do I clean my Nest Mats?
Yes! Simply take your mats out of the coop and give them a good shake to remove droppings and debris. This helps keep the mats fresher for longer.
